depends on whether your Xeons are EM64T capable or not. If not then i386, otherwise either i386 or x86-64. The precise reasons for choosing i386 or x86-64 on an EM64T xeon where listed in a message a few days back. Opterons are *true*server CPUs and are implemented in a server centric architectiure unlike the Xeon which is basically a P4 that can do SMP. For typical server workloads you'll notice a big benefit with the opterons. All the best.
