asterisk users - Feb 2009 - IAX2 - now known as RFC 5456

Mark and Ed received word today that the long-awaited RFC for IAX2 has  
been approved by the IETF, and is now published:

Asterisk 1.6 releases support media-only transfers, and Asterisk SVN
trunk has encryption key rotation support. Those are the only *current*
changes that I'm aware of.

Many congratulations to Mark and Ed!

I have been extolling the virtues of using IAX and IAX trunking for
years(much to the grief of Olle).

Maybe now we'll see some more mainstream hardware with IAX as a
protocol option. There are only so many iterations of  PA1688 chipset
devices coming out of China, it would be nice to once again run a Snom
phone with IAX firmware on it.
