asterisk users - Jan 2006 - modem simulation

I've seen there are spandsp, iaxmodem to simulate a modem for
receiving faxes under asterisk. Hylafax can be "tricked" to think it
is a real modem.

Can I create a dialup/access server with the same method? Can ppp run
on top of this "software" modem?

just to understand, what would be the use ?
By chance, you don't want to simulate a slow link do you ?

IAXmodem and spandsp currently only do fax.
