Can i use a domain name instead of an IP address for externip (sip.conf) Because im using dynamic dns. Not sure what i'm trying to achieve as yet but, i want to know if it is possible?
Yes, you can, but asterisk needs to be reloaded (sip reload) when your ip changes. Julian J. M. I do not see a problem there. You just have to make sure that Asterisk box is set up with correct DNS server address. Apparently Analagous Threads
- Cisco IP Phones
- Script to automatically update externip. Useful for a host with dynamic public IP
- no sdp or contact replacement using externip
- Asterisk behind NAT and Kamailio --> Internal IP in SDP and not "externip"
- SIP behind NAT - use of "externip" option
