Anyway do you think some one can point me to some examples of real config files. Such as IAX, Extensions, and Sip. I just cant grasp the concept for some reason. If someone would like to help me out, maybe even explain one on one? Thanks a lot Try these: * John Todd, Loligo.com: http://www.loligo.com/asterisk/current/extensions.conf (cache) * Tilghman: http://asterisk.drunkcoder.com/extensions.conf (cache) * Zac Sprackett: http://sprackett.com/asterisk/conf/extensions.conf (cache) Also, check out the wiki at http://www.voip-info.org. Hope this helps!

Thanks a lotIn every ASterisk source code distribution, there's a set of sample config files with a lot of comments. Find those. A lot of time have been spent to make these good examples. There's a complete IVR system in there, echo tests and even sample configuration for calling to Digium over the Internet. All should work directly after installation of the sample config files and an Asterisk restart. After compilation and installation, you get instructions on how to install the samples. Also, you've got pointers in other mails to a lot of good example files on the net. Good luck in your Asterisk exploration! /O

They will upload any changes made via the web interface, or via the menu's on the phone itself. They upload an 'overrides' file. They do not upload a new copy of the original XML files phone1.cfg and sip.cfg. Therefore, if you had no XML (ie sip.cfg, phone1.cfg) files in the first place, you'll still have no XML files after the phone boots. If you don't include other files there, there shouldn't be any configuration wipe, and you should be left with a set of XML files for usage. You can connect to the internal web server on the phone, and get/set some parameters through that interface, but not _all_ the settings. You really need to start with a standard set of xml configuration files, an FTP server, and start from there. It would be great if you grab the config for a phone tho.
