It can do G.729a with the purchase of an additional licence of $10 per channel.. Yes you can use G.711 with a provider, some providers offer GSM, iLBC and Speex as alternative codecs.. Later..

Asterisk can be a g729 endpoint if you have the licenses. It can connect two g729 devices without a license as long as it doesn't have to get in the middle for *any* reason. g723: It might, I just don't know. See the wiki: http://www.voip-info.org/ ----- Andrew Thompson http://aktzero.com/ Your eyes are weary from staring at the CRT. You feel sleepy. Notice how restful it is to watch the cursor blink. Close your eyes. The opinions stated above are yours. You cannot imagine why you ever felt otherwise.

G.729 is available for purchase by contacting Digium. G.723 is not. I would really recommend that you go with a different codec, such as GSM or ILBC. -Tilghman
