asterisk users - May 2003 - IAX/IAX2 protocol descriptions ?

Hello all,

May I know where to find the description of IAX/IAX2 protocols please ?
Especially the documents/files which explain how IAX has better use than
SIP/H.323  for getting through Firewall/NAT ?
