Hi all, I'm currently evaluating ideas for a phone system for our new office and I have a copy of Asterisk along with a couple of H.323 phones setup in the lab here. I'm very impressed - thanks for the great software! (I was especially impressed that the IAX connection to Digium worked out of the box like that - someone at Digium no doubt has a voicemail from me this morning!) ;-) What I was wondering (not being at all knowledgeable about telephony stuff) is are there different types of channel bank - and is there a specific one that is recommended or that people have had success with? I need help. EMeritas has to conduct a test on 2 T1's we just got installed. They want "equipment" to be hooked up to the T1's. I do not know much about telephony. I had just bought an Adtran TA 750 from james a few weeks back. Now I figured that since I don't have the * boxes ready to hook up and (learn howto) configure, I'd just hook up the adtran and let emeritas run their stupid test. The test is to be done today (monday) at 3:30 pm central time. a few questions relating to setting up the adtran: how do you set up its IP so you can manage it via the network cable from T1 to channel bank, cat5 okay (for now?) anyone got a good digital copy of the TA750 manual? couldn't find one online (even on adtran's site)... if all fails, digium, expect a call from us at around 2pm central.. gotta buy your support at some point :) thanks in advance! lizardbox

You'd better use some AVM C2 or C4 or even an E1/T1 card if the office is large... roy -- Roy Sigurd Karlsbakk, Datavaktmester ProntoTV AS - http://www.pronto.tv/ Tel: +47 9801 3356 Computers are like air conditioners. There are ones that are fairly dense meant to terminate a T1 at the customer site. There is also less dense devices that seem to be meant for the Telco where it will keep one misconfigured or shorted line from taking out more than one line at a time. Digium has ties to Adtran. I like Carrier Access and have one of their Adit 600s in my home. While the Zhone Zplex devices work, there have been some stability and support issues with them. There is many more names than this, but these I have atleast some knowledge of. -- Steven Critchfield <critch@basesys.com>
Hi, it's going to be a mix of standard analogue phones and SIP devices when it all goes ahead. Maybe six incoming lines with 14 internal analogue extensions and six SIP handsets. Hello, I'm new to Asterisk and would like to know how you could have 4 to 6 incoming analog POTS lines connecting to the Asterisk server and have 4 to 6 analog lines going out.(A T1 line is too costly). Would 2 channel banks be used? Thanks Ken
