Hello, I am experiencing trouble with r-term 1.1.1 for windows 2000. When I start rterm, and I get a prompt, it seems to freeze after any assignment statement (so, if I type x_rnorm(1000), I don't get another prompt). Statements that don't involve assignment statements (like "plot(rnorm(1000))") seem to work, and I get a new prompt. The Rgui seems to work fine, and if I *can* run simple batch files (which include assignment statements) the way Ripley describes in the R for Windows FAQ. Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Actually check the archives where Prof. Brian Ripley gives a list of things to try. Be forewarned there are some incompatibilities between R and Windows 2000. I'm a user and can only use it via the RGUI. That says [Testing on Windows 2000 has not been extensive, and a few features have been reported to not work there.] ... Rterm.exe will run from a command line such as an MS-DOS or Commands Window running the standard shells, command.com (9x) and cmd.exe (NT), as well as the ports of bash and tcsh that we use. Its primary purpose is to allow batch operation, but it does provide all the facilities needed for interactive use, including command-line editing (see the file README.Rterm). [We have had reports that this does not work under Windows 2000.] ... Similar behaviour has been reported a few times, using Rterm.exe interactively and under ESS. It looks like that the thread handling (those situations use multiple threads) under 2000 is not working as it did under 9x and NT4. We have not yet had a chance to debug this on a Windows 2000 machine and there is no known workaround, but as the README notes, the primary purpose does work. Hopefully this will be resolved by the next release. -- Brian D.
