That looks like a mismatch between what R was built with and what you have
installed. What does this show on your box?
edd at basebud:~$ grep ^CC /etc/R/Makeconf
CC = gcc
It may want gcc-3.3 or gcc-3.4 in which case you'd need to install that
package.
