We compiled xen-3.4.2 (2.6.18.8-xen). The grub entry, and the partition information to boot from /dev/sda1 is as follows. 1. /boot/grub/menu.lst: title Xen uuid 30ec981c-187e-4488-ae98-fe54ad13a77b kernel /boot/xen-3.4.gz console=vga module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18.8-xen root=UUID=30ec981c-187e-4488-ae98-fe54ad13a77b ro console=tty0 rootdelay=90 module /boot/initrd-2.6.18.8-xen.img 2. fdisk: Disk /dev/sda: 122.9 GB, 122942324736 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14946 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x000e4ad4 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 1376 11052688+ 83 Linux /dev/sda2 14335 14946 4915890 5 Extended /dev/sda3 1377 11587 82019857+ 83 Linux /dev/sda4 11588 14334 22065277+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda5 14335 14946 4915858+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris Partition table entries are not in disk order 3. /etc/fstab: # /dev/sda1 UUID=30ec981c-187e-4488-ae98-fe54ad13a77b / ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1 # /dev/sda5 UUID=3896c65c-3908-412d-8d3d-e5593a6e674e none swap sw 0 0 4. /dev/disk/by-uuid/: total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2010-03-01 14:43 1385D7DA6D83F67F -> ../../sda4 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2010-03-01 14:43 30ec981c-187e-4488-ae98-fe54ad13a77b -> ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2010-03-01 14:43 3896c65c-3908-412d-8d3d-e5593a6e674e -> ../../sda5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2010-03-01 14:43 6c4a7894-1a6a-46b7-b020-7a3cfa859283 -> ../../sda3 When we boot the new Xen kernel, we get the messsage: ALERT! /dev/disk/.......does not exist. Dropping to a shell! We tried several other settings for "root=" in the menu.lst such as root=/dev/sda1, etc. But none of them worked. We kept getting the same error message "..... does not exist". Can somebody figure out why does this happen? Thanks a lot in advance!
