[Xen-users] Problems booting domian - unable to mount root device
Hi everybody, i run SuSE 9.3 on a thinkpad T30, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB HDD, Pentium IV Mobile, 2 GHz. For trying Xen i deviced to install debian on a file-backed VBD as described in the chapters 5.2 and appendix A in the user''s documentation on http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos/xen/readmes/user/user.html. I have to do the installation on a VBD because my SuSE uses all the HD: # fdisk -l /dev/hda Disk /dev/hda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7296 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 1 131 1052226 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/hda2 * 132 7296 57552862+ 83 Linux After some troubles I got my dom0 running (I allow 512 MB RAM): # xm list Name Id Mem(MB) CPU State Time(s) Console Domain-0 0 512 0 r---- 668.8 This is my xencfg: # -*- mode: python; -*- #===========================================================================# Python configuration setup for ''xm create''. # This script sets the parameters used when a domain is created using ''xm create''. # You use a separate script for each domain you want to create, or # you can set the parameters for the domain on the xm command line. #=========================================================================== #---------------------------------------------------------------------------- # Kernel image file. kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-xen" # Optional ramdisk. ramdisk = "/boot/initrd-xen" # The domain build function. Re: [Xen-users] Problems booting domian - unable to mount root device
err.... I did not find the mentioned solition, but: I could fix it: o I tried to install a SuSE-guest-domain - worked. o I tried both /boot and /dev from SuSE-guest on debian-guest - no success. o I disabled the ramdisk-statement in the xencfg-file (this is ESSENTIAL!) o Then I ran out of loop-devices that I need for mounting the VBD (mount -o loop /usr/local/xenvm/vm1disk /mnt/vm1disk) I don''t exactly know how this can happen, but I cound find out that loop devices can be free via losetup -d /dev/loop<no> I freed all loop-devs, since then debian boots. There are still some odd things happening, but I think the boot-problem should be solved now. All the best! Cz.
