Gluster users - Nov 2010 - hidden .gfs* files?

Hi,
I have some hidden .gfs* files lying around in a distributed Volume (3 bricks).
Their acces time and modification time do not change any more. What are these?
Something like .nfs* files?
Can I safely remove them? Their size is as big as the (visible, non .gfs*
filename) file's size.

These are temporary files created during rebalance operations, which do 
a write/rename to avoid modifying an in-use file.  Assuming that the 
matching non-.gfs files exist and seem valid, it should be safe to 
delete them.
