would it possible to use ZFS snapshot as way 
to doing hot backup for oracle database? 
anybody have tried that?

You would need to put the tablespaces with data files on the filesystem
being snapped into backup mode while you take the snapshot, but it
should work ok.

Yes, it works very well as long as you follow the usual hot backup 
procedure then replace the portion where you do an OS-level copy with 
ZFS snapshot.  Very cool. :)
