ZFS experts, We have a question from the field ... If the array (3320) was configured in a JBOD configuration only, would it be possible to use RAIDZ (zfs) to present the "raw" disks to the application? If so, would there be an advantage to doing this over using the standard in-box RAID capability? I am wondering if some one can shed some light on this? Thanks, Vish This message posted from opensolaris.org

The upside would be that the ZFS data integrity and snapshot capabilities could be used. Check out http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5461/6n7ht6qsj?a=view The potential downside could be a performance hit. There has been some discussion on that in the zfs-discuss list but I don''t recall it being conclusive and it would probably be application specific too. I''d run a test with both and see how it goes....and report back please.
