Hi: I plan to configure the remaining 46 disk on X4500 : 5x(8+1) raid1 , 1 hot sapre Any problem? Does it means I can suffer 2 disk failure for each of the five group? thanks. zhanyang This message posted from opensolaris.org

You should consider raidz2 which offers double parity. Also, spares are a good idea. I have blogged on some similar configurations and their analysis. For brevity, I didn''t include the 8+1 case, I stopped at the 7+1 case, but the trend will continue. I have read you papers for several times ,they are so helpful! the difference between raidz2 and [raidz1 + 1 hot spare] is : If there are 2 disk in a pool fail at the same time ,it''s a disaster for the later configuration ,and the raidz2 pool is so stable to avoid it. But,if the 2 disk fail at different time ,the tow configration are all available after replace the bad disks. Does the idea right? thanks®ards This message posted from opensolaris.org
