Hi, I have an Ubuntu system with samba 4 that did work perfectly until this morning. Normal shares in smb.conf appeared as always, while user shares included with %U did not anymore. This is the global part of smb.conf: ? ? ? ? security = user ? ? ? ? username map = /etc/samba/smbusers ? ? ? ? include = /etc/samba/smb.conf.%U ? ? ? ? include = /etc/samba/smb.conf.%m ? There are then various smb.conf.[username] with custom shares for the user. They always did work, but now they're completely ignored. I find this in the log: ? [2023/01/26 18:35:35.817936, ?0] ../../source3/param/loadparm.c:3431(process_usershare_file) ? process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/p failed. Permission denied ? And /var/lib/samba/usershares is fine: drwxrwx--T 2 root sambashare 4096 Jan 26 16:44 usershares ? And all the path to both usershares and the real user share dir has normal permissions, never changed. ? No update to the system, nothing. No user, no windows version, not even smbclient can list the user shares. ? Can you help? Gabriele ? It looks like a recent security update had something to do with it. I spotted these bugs in launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/2003867 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/2003891 On Thu, Jan 26, 2023 at 3:02 PM Gabriele Bulfon via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote:> > Hi, I have an Ubuntu system with samba 4 that did work perfectly until this morning. > Normal shares in smb.conf appeared as always, while user shares included with %U did not anymore. > This is the global part of smb.conf: > > security = user > username map = /etc/samba/smbusers > include = /etc/samba/smb.conf.%U > include = /etc/samba/smb.conf.%m > > There are then various smb.conf.[username] with custom shares for the user. > They always did work, but now they're completely ignored. > I find this in the log: > > [2023/01/26 18:35:35.817936, 0] ../../source3/param/loadparm.c:3431(process_usershare_file) > process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/p failed. See: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15243 It has been backported to 4.16 and presumably Ubuntu will back port it to their supported Samba versions (where relevant) Rowland
