[theora] NHW Project - more test with x265 (HEVC) codec
Hello, I don't have worked on the NHW Project this past week (I also have to work on an other project) but I found time today to make an "extensive" testing of x265 (HEVC) and the NHW codec at high compression (-l7 setting). That's right that x265 is a very good codec! Really impressive. The NHW Project is not as good, it can only compete with x265 (HEVC) on quite high quality images, with hardly no blurred areas and JPEG artifacts. It's a pity the real mess around HEVC patent licensing. The advantages of the NHW Project are however that it is royalty-free, and very faster than x265, as I said (many times...) on this list, it is at least 50x faster to encode and 15x faster to decode than x265!... I don't know if I will have time to really work again on the NHW Project, as I will start a new job in September (I am jobless since October 2017) and I would also like to spend these next months on my other project which I really like.I hope that before September, I will have coded a -l8 high compression quality setting and improved the entropy coding schemes. Also again, new members are welcome, and if you have ideas to improve the NHW Project, want to sponsorize the project, do not hesitate to contact me!!! Many thanks!
