It really comes down to what interfaces it uses on the server. We
implement a remote credentials store that Microsoft uses for it's
credentials manager (backupkey).
I would suggest giving it a try, and if it doesn't work analysing what
calls it is making and failing with. If new protocols are needed, that
could be hard, but depending on how important that is to you, you might
find someone to implement the required parts.
I certainly agree keeping devices encrypted sounds like a very good
idea in this modern era.
