samba - Apr 2016 - samba 4 avahi invalid response packet from windows 10 clients breaks dns

Hello to all,

I am using samba 4.3.4 on centos 6.5
With bind  for dns registration:

version: 9.8.2rc1-RedHat-9.8.2-0.17.rc1.el6
CPUs found: 24
worker threads: 24
number of zones: 27
debug level: 0
xfers running: 0
xfers deferred: 0
soa queries in progress: 0
query logging is OFF
recursive clients: 0/0/1000
tcp clients: 0/100
server is up and running

I am watching avahi flooding my /var/log/messages with : avahi-daemon
inavlid response packet from host windows10-pc.
After a while bind does not work as aspected and dynamic dns stops working.
Only a restart of bind can fix that.

time for upgrade, 4.3.8 with badlock fixes has come out.

for which use case do you need avahi?

Unless you definitly need avahi, I'd advise you to disable it 
altogether. You can turn off the service, disable automatic startup, and 
remove mdns from /etc/nsswitch.conf. In your /etc/nsswitch.conf, a clean 
non modified hosts line should look like :

hosts:          files dns

As far as I concerned, avahi/mdns/bonjour is more for non-managed 
home/soho setup. It is more a pain than a help in an enterprise setup.
