Further testing,
I've found that in /etc/fstab on rhel 5.9 that the option for "ro"
is only
enforced when "noexec" is also apart of the mounting option.
/etc/fstab

glusterfs#hostname:/testcontent on /mnt type fuse (ro,noexec,
nosuid,nodev,default_permissions,allow_other,max_read=131072)

[root at hostname mnt]# touch mickeymouse
[root at hostname mnt]# ls -l mickey*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Aug 12 14:59 mickeymouse
[root at hostname mnt]# rm -f mickeymouse
[root at hostname mnt]# ls -l mickey*
ls: mickey*: No such file or directory
[root at hostname mnt]#
Community is there a bugzilla or a fix for this behavior? My intentions
is to have my clients use the native fuse mount rather than NFS.
I've been able to replicate this behavior only on rhel 5.9 2.6.18-348.el5,
while I've had success on RHEL6 clients mounting options as "ro"

replace-brick needs a revamp. "remove-brick start" can work as an
interim solution till replace-brick is sorted out or an alternate
mechanism for replacing a brick is evolved. A tracker bug for

Well,
It appears that after I rebooted the 5.9 client, the read-only feature via
the client is working.
I cannot think of anything I did out of the ordinary that would have fixed
my issue.
Prior, I know I had to load the FUSE module b/c lsmod did not show any
devices.
Options in the /etc/fstab is also honored.

Gluster community,
I've recently downloaded and installed gluster3.4.0 GA and so far my
testing on rhel6 servers have been great. Something I found that the
read-only open on rhel5 (5.9) is not being honored. I can write/delete
files of a gluster volume via the client, while on rhel6 it is respected
and read-only flag is enforced.
Has anyone found a way to get read-only to work through FUSE on rhel5
without going the NFS path?

You would need libxml2 and libxml2-devel packages to be installed. This
will prevent the above error in configure.
