The best combination of location, price and facilities appears to be San Francisco State University. The best date we came up with internally was Oct 1-2. We''re in the process of locking in with the facility, and unless there is a massive uprising in protest, it''s all going down Oct 1-2 at SFSU. Speak now or forever hold your piece. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Hi, Can you come up with an agenda? That could help to clarify who is paying for the trip and than I could answer the original question :) Thanks, Ohad On 6/10/09, Andrew Shafer <andrew@reductivelabs.com> wrote:> The best combination of location, price and facilities appears to be San > Francisco State University. > > The best date we came up with internally was Oct 1-2. > > We''re in the process of locking in with the facility, and unless there is a > massive uprising in protest, it''s all going down Oct 1-2 at SFSU. > > Speak now or forever hold your piece. > > > >--~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. The agenda didn''t change. This would be in the spirit of a BarCamp or OpenSpaces conference, with some workshops and presentations. I think I can convince Luke to do a workshop. ;) I was planning to send another open invitation to present to the mailing list. I want to keep the prepared presentations to about 50% of the time and the rest of the time I hope to see people sharing ideas and hacking. I want to keep the cost low, probably $100 give or take, to help cover cost for the facility, food, t-shirts, etc. The agenda is going to be shaped by the community as much as possible. What do you want to see? What do you want to talk about? On Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 2:00 AM, Ohad Levy <ohadlevy@gmail.com> wrote:> > Hi, > > Can you come up with an agenda? A few things from the top of my head: 1) What people have done in regard to node management, as well as dealing with nodes that do not have static DNS names such as when using Ec2. 2) Success/failures on scaling puppet out to n clients 3) How it''s been incorporated in to development, operations, and infrastructure environments Ta, Matt 2009/6/10 Andrew Shafer <andrew@reductivelabs.com>:> > The agenda didn''t change. > > This would be in the spirit of a BarCamp or OpenSpaces conference, with some > workshops and presentations. > > I think I can convince Luke to do a workshop. ;) > > I was planning to send another open invitation to present to the mailing > list. > > I want to keep the prepared presentations to about 50% of the time and the > rest of the time I hope to see people sharing ideas and hacking. > > I want to keep the cost low, probably $100 give or take, to help cover cost > for the facility, food, t-shirts, etc. > > The agenda is going to be shaped by the community as much as possible. Both successes, and even more failures. In a similar vein, anything about attempts at using modules to provide simplified config building blocks to others. Maybe an in-person meeting would be a good opportunity to revive the ''grand unified puppet module repo'' idea that has been out there for a while, but never really taken off. BTW, I will definitely attend if I am in town (there''s a very small chance that I might not be) David --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. I''ve also started thinking about a way to deploy the modules (welcome input here too) once we''ve got a central home for them and some further agreements on standardisation - many platforms/distro support in one module for example. For everyone''s interest: http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/ModuleStandards This documents the current thinking around standards - it''s very early stages and needs more input and consensus.> Meanwhile I''m also trying to merge the various forks and advancements of > the modules. [Puppet Users] Preparations for PuppetCommonModules project (was: Re: Puppet Camp Oct 1-2 at SFSU)

How do I add myself to the project?I''ve already noted the camptocamp modules and''ll put you on the list too :) Mainly we''re still fumbling around how to best distribute and "version" the modules after publishing them. My personal todo list looks like this: * Get a few modules "releasable". (My first target list is what can be seen in my github account[1]: common, munin, nagios, apache, collectd) This is mostly documentation work and removing stuff obsoleted by recent facter and puppet releases. * Aquire access to the necessary infrastructure. That would be primarily the "pcm" redmine project for bugtracking and perhaps an automated documentation builder (using puppetdoc). * Announce a first beta and Call For Modules. * Lather, rinse, repeat. * Develop and deploy best practises for - distribution dependent module parts - distribution independent module interfaces - repository organisation standards - module deployment For the first iteration, having a documented way to use git directly to work with modules and module upgrading might be just enough to get those people on board who''re already maintaining their modules in git (and thus are in the best position to help anyways). I think James mentioned the Serrano, which is downtown, nice and relatively inexpensive. Anything downtown is going to be about 20-25 minute drive or 40 minutes if you are close to the Muni light rail. Here are instructions from the facility for getting there. http://www.sfsu.edu/~meetings/location.htm This is what the campus recommends. (The hospitality suites look nice, not sure what you need to use those.) http://www.sfsu.edu/~meetings/lodging.htm When I get a chance and we get a bit closer, I''ll post some maps.
