[theora] Linux Foundation removed all Theora videos from linux.com?
I've heard this second hand and haven't had the time to confirm its vericity. Can someone confirm this is the case? If so, what were these people thinking? Removing support for the only video format that is sure to be installed in every Linux box somehow promoves the OS adoption? You get a WTF award LF, congrats. -Ivo

Looks like they are reworking the site, but the old site sends you here http://linuxcom.blip.tv/rss when you click on video. Blip.tv isn't a great hosting site for unencumbered formats, but at least if you upload in Ogg/Theora they'll continue to make it available. Also relevant: http://ideaforge.linux.com/story.php?title=convert-linuxfoundation-videos-to-ogg-theora-1 I think its important that we try to maintain a "How can we help?" outlook even when "Look? you screwed up" appears justified, if nothing else it spares us egg-face when we're in error as it appears we may be here.

The server is being hammered by something. I did see however a bunch of comments regarding Ogg files on the sidebar but can't figure the context with the site dying on me. Can't find any information on social sites, but then again when do they care? I do know though that the LF just had a huge contest to create an "I am Linux" video. Did they forbid a Theora version of the winning entry, or something like that? -Ivo

When i google for linux.com theora, and click on an article in the linux.com domain, I find links to ogg theora streams that play correctly in Firefox. So they haven't removed the videos. Browsing to http://linux.com shows a page announcing that linuxfoundation.org has taken over the linux.com domain. Clicking on "Video" on this page, and the video page hasn't opened yet; it's probably being slashdotted or something. So I can't verify whether the ogg streams are present. . 2009/4/14 Ivo Emanuel Gon?alves <justivo at gmail.com>:> I've heard this second hand and haven't had the time to confirm its > vericity. ?Can someone confirm this is the case? > > If so, what were these people thinking? ?Removing support for the only > video format that is sure to be installed in every Linux box somehow > promoves the OS adoption? ?You get a WTF award LF, congrats. > > -Ivo > _______________________________________________ > theora mailing list > theora at xiph.org > http://lists.xiph.org/mailman/listinfo/theora >-- John Abreau / Executive Director, Boston Linux & Unix AIM abreauj / JABBER jabr at jabber.blu.org / YAHOO abreauj / SKYPE zusa_it_mgr Email jabr at blu.org / WWW http://www.abreau.net / PGP-Key-ID 0xD5C7B5D9 PGP-Key-Fingerprint 72 FB 39 4F 3C 3B D6 5B E0 C8 5A 6E F1 2C BE 99

I reply o the list as we were offlist Check http://blip.tv/file/345344 for example or other ones from freechelmi in theora , they are all using cortado. For me it's a pity they are not using intelligent javascript based tool such as Itheora in order to use the embedded Ogg player if available On Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 10:06 PM, Gregory Maxwell <gmaxwell at gmail.com>wrote:> On Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 3:47 PM, michel memeteau > <michel.memeteau at gmail.com> wrote: > > You're rude , Blip is the only site when you can Keep your videos in > theora > > and watch them with cortado !
