Hi guys ! Just a question regarding compatibility and success story with Lustre and ORACLE. 1. Do you know if it''s possible to install an Oracle DB on a lustre FS ? as far as I know it''s anyway not supported by Oracle 2. Have u ever heard about a success story with those both technologies ? Thanks a lot, best regards Greg

That would for the most part preclude Lustre. Certainly you could create a large file on Lustre and loopback mount it and give that to Oracle, but I''m sceptical that it will deliver the kind of performance that Lustre as a filesystem can deliver -- which presumably is why Lustre is being considered here. b. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Have u ever heard about a success story with those both technologies ?The generally accepted (and supported by Oracle) way of doing big Oracle + clustering is to run Oracle RAC on top of ASM, which are basically clustered raw devices. http://www.oracle.com/technology/asm/index.html http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clustering/index.html Node count tends to be smaller in RAC clusters (2-100 nodes rather than 1000s), but you can big build datastores; we have 100TB+ Oracle databases in production on top of ASM. That would for the most part preclude Lustre.Actually, Oracle developed OCFS2 (Oracle Cluster File System 2) just for this purpose, and it is included in the upstream Linux kernel. The main problem with it is that it is not a general-purpose filesystem. It has strange semantics about file locking, and is optimized only for Oracle IO patterns. So, in theory it should be possible, but I don''t know if anyone has tested it. Cheers, Andreas -- Andreas Dilger Sr. Staff Engineer, Lustre Group Sun Microsystems of Canada, Inc.
Greg, We had done basic functionality test on lustre filesystem, but we need to mention "flock" in mount options, without flock option db creation was failing.
