Indeed. The cygwin1.dll I have in c:\cygwin\bin has date stamp later than
the one in Rtools.zip, and that's the problem. Taking c:\cygwin\bin out of
the PATH solved the problem. I don't remember why I had \cygwin\bin in the
PATH. The default setup for bash adds the needed directories to the path
anyway.
