Gluster users - Jul 2012 - Removed replica and gluster switched to distribute

I created a replica 2 system, and removed one of the replicas.  Gluster switched
the system from replica to distribute.

I now want to add a system, and go back to replica.  Is it possible to do this?

Why did Gluster switch to distribute?
