Hi Samba, My name is Travis Kuter and I'm with HP's Solution Alliance org. I've got a client asking if Samba Internet Services 3.5 is supported under REHL 5. Would you mind helping with some clarification? Many thanks and Best Regards, Travis Travis Kuter WW ISV Business Development ESS Solution Alliances Hewlett-Packard Company Travis.Kuter at hp.com +404-664-2596
Hello Travis, have a look at http://samba.sernet.de, they provide packages of the latest Samba-versions for almost every systems. Also source-packages (rpm's for RHEL) can be found there. I'm using their packages on my RHEL5 systems and they are really fine. Hello Travis, We're using Samba 3.5 from SerNet (3.5.4, to be exact) with RHEL 4 and CentOS 5 for a long time without any issues. --- wbr, Denis. > I've got a client asking if Samba Internet Services 3.5 is supportedunder REHL 5. Define "supported". If you mean 24/7 tiered escalation included with your RHEL subscription - then no. I have filed two bug reports about running the latest Sernet Samba on RHEL 5 fully patched https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7457 https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7518 and they've been outstanding for months now, and the servers have crashed at least once in the meantime. I also have to go in occasionally and kill zombie processes that peg a processor. So if you need super-ultra-resilient samba, don't use the sernet 3.5 strain. I got forced into it because Red Hat didn't have a Samba version compatible with Server 2008 when I had to build. -=Andrew
