[Samba] samba 2.2.3a & winbind - "smbmount" binary is missing
Hello, I have been able to get samba-2.2.3a & winbind working on a RedHat 7.2 box in a Win2000 Domain but I cannot mount W2K shares from my Linux box with : mount -t smbfs -o username= -o workgroup= //server_name/share /mnt/mount_point I keep getting this error: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superbock on //server_name or too many mounted filesystems Upon trouble shooting this, I noticed that smbmount was not present in the /samba/bin directory.... and it was nowhere on my computer anymore. I untarred samba-latest.tar.gz on another computer thinking that I had somehow mistakenly deleted this command ... and it was not created on the 2nd computer either...... Is samba no longer using smbmout.... the mount command seems to call this to mount SMB fileshares... is there something else I should be using? I can connect to my share with the smbclient command... and that (and all the rest) are in the /samba/bin directory. Any ideas? Thanks alot, Chris

Try it like this, smbmount //server/share /mnt/point -o username=xxx, workgroup=xxx, password=xxx I've found that a lot of the documentation has a lot of discrepancies. I've seen this explained many different ways, including the usage statements with the command. -- Brian ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sarris, Chris" <Chris_Sarris@csgsystems.com> To: <samba@lists.samba.org> Sent: Friday, March 22, 2002 5:27 PM Subject: [Samba] samba 2.2.3a & winbind - "smbmount" binary is missing> Hello, > I have been able to get samba-2.2.3a & winbind working on a RedHat 7.2 box > in a Win2000 Domain but I cannot mount W2K shares from my Linux box with : > > mount -t smbfs -o username= -o workgroup= //server_name/share > /mnt/mount_point > > I keep getting this error: > > mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superbock on //server_name or toomany> mounted filesystems > > Upon trouble shooting this, I noticed that smbmount was not present in the > /samba/bin directory.... and it was nowhere on my computer anymore. > > I untarred samba-latest.tar.gz on another computer thinking that I had > somehow mistakenly deleted this command ... and it was not created on the > 2nd computer either...... > > > Is samba no longer using smbmout.... the mount command seems to call thisto> mount SMB fileshares... is there something else I should be using? > > I can connect to my share with the smbclient command... and that (and all > the rest) are in the /samba/bin directory. > > > Any ideas? > > Thanks alot, > Chris > > -- > To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the > instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba >

[Samba] samba 2.2.3a & winbind - "smbmount" binary is missing
Brian, yes I have used the smbmount command to work with shares..... but I have had to copy that command over to my linux RH 7.2 box along with smbmount and some other commands because these commands did not compile with the Samba 2.2.3a (latest release) when I followed the HOW TO.... I don't understand why they did not compile ... but the commands are not in the Samba-2.2.3a/bin directory. So... the question is, why didn't the Samba make and make install compile and install the smbmount command (and a couple of othere ones like "smbmnt") ... I had to copy they over using a floppy disk? I thought it might be my error.... So I compiled and installed the Samba-2.2.3a on another machine all together.... and again there the mount command would not work because smbmount and smbmnt were not ANYWHERE on the linux box..... not in the Samab/bin directory or in /usr/bin.... "find" could not locate them.... what do you think? thanks, Chris -----Original Message----- From: Brian Whitehead [mailto:bwhitehd@earthlink.net] Sent: Friday, March 22, 2002 8:52 PM To: Sarris, Chris Subject: Re: [Samba] samba 2.2.3a & winbind - "smbmount" binary is missing Try it like this, smbmount //server/share /mnt/point -o username=xxx, workgroup=xxx, password=xxx I've found that a lot of the documentation has a lot of discrepancies.
