We area having the following problem. We have installed samba as a file server and everything seems to be ok. I can see the linux computer from a Windows98 PC. I also can open the share folders. What are your socket options in smb.conf? I had a couple of options specified when I first installed Samba and I had exactly the same problem as yourself.
