Hi there, I wonder if you can help, We have an application that requires a users home directory to be accessible even though they are not setup as a linux user. eg: stuart is on his windows machine (logged in as stuart) he goes through the network to find his samba server on the samba server he finds the folder 'stuart' and can read and write to it, but he does not have a linux account setup. Is this possible? thanks a mil, stuart. ******************************************** MoveAssist International Ltd Ickleford Manor Turnpike Lane Ickleford, Hitchin Herts SG5 3XE United Kingdom Tel: ++44 1462 452186 Fax: ++44 1462 455164 Email Disclaimer The information in this email is intended only for the addressee named above. [Samba] Samba home directory access without passwords
Only if you have another server which keeps his username and password - this would have to be NT, 2000 or Samba OR If you want no protection of his files by anyone else - Including walk-by hackers, or if you have any insecurities in your server - net-based hackers. If you do want this last one, you need to set up an smbuser unix and smb account, map samba's guest user to it, and in the share, set guest ok = yes. I reply to save those more qualified time, which can more usefully be spent developing SAMBA further.
