We have HP-UX 10.20 with Samba 2.0.7. We have a combination of Win2K, NT , 98 and 95 workstations. The problem is we have 1 subnet not being able to connect to the Samba shares using the hostname of the server. We get the error message "The computer or sharename could not be found". We can ping from these machines using the hostname so we know DNS is working. Ant suggestions would be greatly appreciated. [Samba] 2.0.7 "Computer or sharename could not be found"
Hi Kevin; a couple of things to try to narrow down the problem: 1. from an nt or w2k machine on the problem subnet, can you connect to a share using the \\ipaddress\sharename format instead of \\hostname\sharename? 2. it is possible that because of your interfaces= line or 'hosts allow or hosts deny = lines' that samba is not able to negotiate a connection; can you send us specifics regarding your smb.conf file and ipaddresses affected (don't have to be actual addresses, but must be faked up to duplicate exactly your subnet schemes, etc) Hope this helps, Don -----Original Message----- From: Kmudcat [mailto:kmudcat@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, February 11, 2002 2:57 PM To: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: [Samba] 2.0.7 "Computer or sharename could not be found" We have HP-UX 10.20 with Samba 2.0.7.
