samba - Jan 2002 - Samba PDC problem

Easy one.

I have win98 clients that login and connect to the shares fine.  My problem
is the user home directory, each user can see their folders and can even
open them but they cannot save to their home directory.  Each users home dir
is setup as 0700 (-rwx------), as are the files and subdir's, which I
believe is Read, Write, Execute for the owner of the file.  What am I
missing?

Hi,

I am running samba as a pdc on redhat 7.3. Everything has been going fine. I
have a mix of win2k, winxp and winnt4 clients. The problem is with a few
machines that I joined to the domain early on when I was testing. They have
since been removed from the domain and have had their computer name changed. Now
when I try to join the domain again I get an error about using a computer
account to join the domain instead of a valid user name.
So, I'm thinking the sam or something must be hidden away somewhere on the
samba server from when I originally joined the domain in the testing phase.
So... I found the old entry in my smbpasswd and passwd files and removed it, but
I still get the problem!!!

Can someone please help????

Guten Tag samba samba,

i installed a fresh winxp sp1. did the signorseal patch
and added the machine to the domain with my root account.

but i cant add a domain user to the xp box.

when i try to add an user (control planel -> users..)
it says something about cann not getting a trusted connection (its in
german, sorry...)

facts:

i have another client running fine. he can login.
all the user accounts and machine accounts exist on the samba server

any ideas?

Congratulations, that you came this far.
I have a swedish XP SP1(preinstalled from the factory). I can not 
even add the computer to my domain.

How to enable Windows XP to join the Samba Domain
The following steps have to be done with an administrator or a member of the
Administrators group.

This steps must be done befor joining the Samba Domain:

Start the Administrative Tools (Start / Settings / Control Panel /
Administrative Tools). From there start the Local Security Policy.

In the Local Security Policy open Local Policies and then Security Options.

Disable the following entries:

Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (Always) 
Domain member: Digitally encrypt secure channel data (when possible) 
Domain member: Digitally sign secure channel data (when possible) 
Domain member: Require strong (Windows 2000 or later) session key 


In the Group Policy Editor (C:\windows\system32\gpedit.msc) enable the following
entry:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\User Profiles\do not
check for user ownership of roaming profiles folders


Now Windows XP is ready to join the Samba Domain.

You need to add the line
domain admin group = user1 user2 @group1 @group2
