Does anyone have any suggestions for a virus scanner for a samba file server? I know there is antivir - but are there any others? Andy
Andy,
Try using Mcafee anti virus, it works very well. I use here on several
big
Solaris Samba servers. It is also available for Linux and other UNIX's.
I can provide cron scripts if you need them for doing nightly scans and
cleans.
Regards,
Scott.

On the off-chance that this might be true for others, is there any chance you can put them on the web (or up for FTP) and mail the URL to this list? [McAfee Anti virus software]> Do you have a product name and URL? I searched around and cannot find any > of their products for anything except the Win platforms. I have had good results with F-Secure for Linux for over a year now. This is a "batch" scanner, however, not a dynamic "scan on file open" type of scanner. US$99 for the Linux Workstation version. http://www.f-secure.com/products/anti-virus/workstations/ mtoal _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I also know about a software that scan messages on the server before it arrive in the local computer, it is AMAVIS (http://www.amavis.org/) Roberto>I don't know how suitable the Samba architecture is to hooking in a >virus scanner to do some kind of on-access scanning; for example, >triggering a scan on "file open for read/execute" and "file close (if >originally opened for writing)".
