smbprint and Solaris 2.7 - AGAIN! - I REALLY need some guidance, please!
I have Samba installed on a Solaris 2.7 system. I wish to offer my users the capability to print from Unix to their private printer attached to their PC running Windows 98/NT/2000. Following these directions, "7.2.2 System V printers", in http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/ch07_02.html, I created a printer definitions for each PC-attached printer. Also, from each PC, I defined the printer to be shared. I modified smbprint.sysv to post stdout and stderr to a file so that I could see any messages produced. Here are the results of my tests, where I print a file via "lp -d printer file": Printer: W98 * smb: \> smb: \> putting file - as stdin-5862 (0.31926 kb/s) (average 0.319261 kb/s) Printer: W2K ** Anonymous login successful Domain=[STAT.VT.EDU] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.) Printer: WNT ** Anonymous login successful Domain=[STAT.VT.EDU] OS=[Windows NT 4.0] Server=[NT LAN Manager 4.0] tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.) * The file never prints but "disappears" from the queue. ** The file never prints and remains "on" the printer (as shown by lpstat), with smbprint repeatedly failing to print the file, until I "cancel" it. Any help/ideas would be appreciated! Thanks, in advance, for your help.
