Hello, samba I have configured samba in my net, and it works well. From computers in the same sub-net, using w95, in the "Network Area" they can see the samba server. However, from computers in other nets, I can connect with "Connect to net unit", but I can't see the server in th "Network Area". What's the problem? Sorry for my bad English angel

Cannot give precise answer without knowing if you already use a wins server, etc etc. -- giulioo@pobox.com
I'm on a small capmus LAN , using Linux Mandrake. Most of other computers on LAN are MSWindows. I can't acces them when I write "smbclien -L hostaname" , but no problem when I use "smbclient -L Ip_of_hostname". What can the problem be? Thanks.

Don't make your box a wins server. That might be bad. In your smb.conf, have a line like this: wins server = yourwinsserver I use my netbios name but you may have to use the ip address. Don't know. Have you fooled around with nmblookup (man nmblookup) to see how things are doing looking up netbios names? This sounds like you have a host resolution problem. This can be tricky, depending on your network. Have you set up your linux box to use your systems wins server? If you only have a few hosts you might put them into /etc/hosts and make sure samba is looking there (I forget the magic, but there is a name resolution parameter in smb.conf). There is also the equivalent of an lmhosts file in samba, I THINK. I just use a wins server on my simple two subnet home network, and most things work OK. Hello, When I try to mount my network's computer's shared directory a message "smbfs file system is not supportet by kernel" appears. I'm using the latest version of samba, but it doesn't help. How could I solve this problem? Thank you ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.one.lt - Tavo mobilusis el.pastas!
