Hi, I have an SMB server running RH6.2 with SMB 2.0.7. All the clients are WIN95, and require access to a database on the SAMBA server. The problem is that the database locks the file while the user is modifying it, and then unlocks it when the user returns to the programs menu. If the user then selects another action that uses the same file the program reports that the file is locked. Another scenario is: User A edits a document, and then exits the document, so that User B can read it. If this is done within a few seconds of each other, User B gets the old version of the document that User A was editing. If user B now closes the document, all the changes that User B made are lost. This happens when using MSOffice apps. Is there a way to prevent this from happening. Please respond directly to me, on enricop@pharma.co.za, as I receive this list in digest mode. Regards Enrico
Hi, I'm having a strange problem today with samba 2.2.7. Samba is reporting that one of our users has locked a file. I have asked him to reboot his machine and stopped and restarted the smb daemon. The file remains locked. I have also tried to kill the pid of the samba process associated with the locked file - this does not help at all. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions - maybe I just need to delete the locking.tdb file, would that help?? thanks, Mark Le Noury Barone, Budge & Dominick Tel. Hi There, I'm running Samba 2.2.8a and I think I'm having problems with Samba's file locking mechanism. These are the files and modes that I'm trying to open from a dos application. The program freezes for about 5 minutes, then continues to run without loading the necessary files into memory. When the files were on novell last week, there was no pause or lockup. See the files/modes below: DENY_DOS RDONLY NONE /mnt/rtl/accumail/ews.dat DENY_WRITE RDONLY EXCLUSIVE+BATCH /mnt/rtl/accumail/zip3.exe DENY_WRITE RDONLY EXCLUSIVE+BATCH /mnt/rtl/public/util/tsrmark/mark.com In my debugging log I get this: [2003/07/10 08:31:25, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(797) oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds. oplock_break failed for file accumail/ews.idx (dev = 2101, inode 736295, file_id = 13450). The file above is a file that my program needs to open, but oplocks are screwing up? Someone else had this file open earlier. Thanks, Jason Stewart
