Good day everyone... I downloaded SAMBA from http://freeware4sun.com and install it to my Solaris 2.6 OS. I can't make it work. Do you have an step-step procedure on how to install and configure this software? Where can I have it? info and scenario: * I want to share /appl directory of Solaris 2.6 to win2000 and winNT pc with read-write and read only on other users * the Unix hostname is OV (10.30.24.152, static) and the pc names are pc_ncaganan (win2000, dhcp, currently 10.30.27.129), pc_communal (winNT, static, 10.30.26.115), etc... * our network subnet mask is 255.255.252.0 * we logon to our NT Domain and we don't use DNS, NIS and NIS+ * login names: ncaganan, communal, etc..... Given the information above, what are the necessary parameters that needs to be defined in smb.conf? My goal is to connect only to my OV server with restricted permission to other users. PLEASE HELP....

Look in the docs/ directory for longer explanations of several relevant issues. Peter
Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to inquire if samaba server has features to limit the internet access to specific windows clients only. Meaning If some windows clients have not given the privilege, they cannot access the internet. Thank you very much. Samba Team, I'm running a large Sun environment in which I have access to almost a terabyte of SCSI attached storage. I would like to capitolize on this space with as much diversity as I can. We have a primarly Win2K PC environment, and I am interested in knowing if there is a method to have Samba offer up file services with quota enforcement, without populating my sun machines with machine logins. Ideally I'd like to have the following environment. Sun Server ----------- Storage array Samba w/ quota enforcement (preferrable from within AD) Win2K Server --------------- Active Directory User Authentication Win2K Workstations ---------------------- Login Map to Sun Server via Samba. Is this a doable architecture? Thanks, Tom ********************************************************** * Tom Riley, CNE University of Alaska Anchorage * * Systems Engineer IT Services, Engineering Team * * axtjr@uaa.alaska.edu (907)786-1256 * * ----------------------- * * No life ever grows great until it is focused, * * dedicated, and disciplined. * **********************************************************
