Hi, I'm trying to configure samba-1.9.18p8 to act as a wins server, to be able to browse between the two networks here at work (192.9.200.x and 193.127.209.x). Calix, the server, has one eth on each network, and has the wins support = yes. (No, it has no wins server = xxx line :)) It's been several days trying to make it work, and, with a debug level of 2 and 3 I've seen something strange: it's the talk log between sueno (the w95 client 192.9.200.140) and calix, the Linux wins server (192.9.200.200). Enplater is the workgroup: <<<<<-- cut -->>>>>>> wins_process_name_query: name query for name CALIX<20> from IP 192.9.200.140 wins_process_name_query: name query for name CALIX<20> returning first IP 192.9.200.0. <----- HERE!! wins_process_name_query: name query for name CALIX<20> from IP 192.9.200.140 wins_process_name_query: name query for name CALIX<20> returning first IP 192.9.200.0. process_get_backup_list_request: request from NOVITA<00> IP 192.9.200.140 to ENPLATER<1d>. send_backup_list_response: sending backup list for workgroup ENPLATER to NOVITA<00> IP 192.9.200.140 process_get_backup_list_request: request from NOVITA<00> IP 192.9.200.140 to ENPLATER<1b>. send_backup_list_response: sending backup list for workgroup ENPLATER to NOVITA<00> IP 192.9.200.140 <<<<<<<--- cut --->>>>>>> As you see, the WINS server doesn't tell the client that his IP is 192.9.200.200, the server returns *some* first IP, 192.9.200.0. I think the problem is here. So, novita, the client, can't browse the network (Windows reports "Network error"). More info: - The client can use "net use x: \\blah\blah" to get shares, the wins server returns the IP ok. - The wins server is the domain master and local browser (domain master, local master and preferrend master == yes in smb.conf, he always wins elections). Any hint please? Oh, reply also by email, because I'm not subscribed to the mailing list.. Altough I had been much time ago X-) --- Dani Pardo, dani@enpl.es Enplater S.A
