rsync - Jan 2007 - Timeout, server not responding

I have several WinXP laptops which have been backing up to a FreeBSD 6.0 
server via rsync for a good while now. Now one laptop is giving me 
grief. I am running cwRsync and invoking a remote rsync daemon via a 
shell command:

cmd /K "rsync.exe -avr --rsh=ssh --progress --stats --delete
/cygdrive/d/"My
Documents" user@server::user_data"

I get this error locally:

I have been troubleshooting with a test directory both locally and 
remotely (client and server). I have also upgraded rsync on the server 
as well as re-installed cwRsync on the laptop.

Increase verbosity (-vvvv) and show us what happens when the client XP machine 
tries to connect to the server.

Wait a minute, can one use ssh at the transport and still connect to an rsync 
daemon module?

Loose the --rsh=ssh or the double-colon destination and it should work.

Is there a VPN involved? Could this be a transport issue?

All I get is an extra line just prior to the server prompting the user 
for their password:

opening connection using ssh -1 <user> <server> rsync --server
--daemon

No, there is no VPN.  Two computers on a regular LAN.
