hi, i have centos 4.2. I have install a PCI card having serial port. when the os is booted it detects the new hardware ( serial port) .a device is also created /dev/ttyS0. the port works very goog on the same pc in windows XP. but when i connect any serial device to that port in linux it does not work. in /proc/ioports there is entry for that port as 0000-001f : dma1 0020-003f : pic1 0040-005f : timer 0060-006f : keyboard 0070-007f : rtc 0080-008f : dma page reg 00a0-00bf : pic2 00c0-00df : dma2 00f0-00ff : fpu 0170-0177 : ide1 01f0-01f7 : ide0 0376-0376 : ide1 03c0-03df : vga+ 03f6-03f6 : ide0 03f8-03ff : serial(auto) ---- > displayed here 0cf8-0cff : PCI conf1 c000-cfff : PCI Bus #01 c800-c8ff : Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Are you sure you're using the right /dev/ttyS* value for the port? What are you connecting to the port that's not communicating properly?
