Hello, I'm trying to setup an Asterix PBX solution in our office. We plan to have 5 active lines open available at any point in time. We'd like to use VoIP Phones, and possibly Software Based phone (*NIX/Windows enviroment). I was researching the various cards and I think I'd want to go with the Digium TDM40B - 4-port. However, I can't figure the differences between FXS & FXO to make a decision of a purchase. Could someone help explain this? Ideally, we want to have one main line and have it hit a directory then branch to each work area with a phone. Thanks, -Puddle __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Take Yahoo! if you are going to use SIP phones (either software or hardware) then you won't need FXS. You will need FXO modules to connect you to the PSTN (i.e. to the outside world). FXS is used so you can hook POTS phones to them the PBX (POTS meaning your regular phone the ones you most likely have at your house and as such) this link is an ok document explaining the different www.patton.com/technotes/*fxs*_*fxo*.*pdf hope this help moe smadi *Puddle wrote:>Hello, I'm trying to setup an Asterix PBX solution in >our office. > >We plan to have 5 active lines open available at any >point in time. > >We'd like to use VoIP Phones, and possibly Software >Based phone (*NIX/Windows enviroment). > >I was researching the various cards and I think I'd >want to go with the Digium TDM40B - 4-port. > >However, I can't figure the differences between FXS & >FXO to make a decision of a purchase. > >Could someone help explain this? > >Ideally, we want to have one main line and have it hit >a directory then branch to each work area with a >phone. > >Thanks, > >-Puddle > > > > > >__________________________________ >Do you Yahoo!? >Take Yahoo! It is my experience that whenever a computer gets under any kind of load, it tends to degrade the voice quality significantly. If your users are not going to be using their computers while they are on the phone, then that would work just fine. If they do need to use their computers while on the phone, you will run the risk of seriously degrading the voice quality.
