Hi folks, well the easiest soft phone I have found (from this list) is the x-ten. great little piece of software. BUT, on a windows machine I need to plug in a USB device and find the software to drive it which can actually use a normal handset (similar to the s100p) but can be used to actually generate/answer the calls and actually rings when a call is received. Any ideas ?? Gary .
Quicknet's 'My Internet Phone' is ready that feature. # electrical buzz beeped in phone when calling but without today's products list. ;-( mack On Fri, 16 May 2003 14:28:17 +1000 "Gary" <gary@ausmail.com> wrote:>Hi folks, > >well the easiest soft phone I have found (from this list) is the x-ten. >great little piece of software. > >BUT, on a windows machine I need to plug in a USB device and find the >software to drive it which can actually use a normal handset (similar >to the s100p) but can be used to actually generate/answer the calls and >actually rings when a call is received. > > >Any ideas ?? > >Gary > > >. > > > >_______________________________________________ >Asterisk-Users mailing list >Asterisk-Users@lists.digium.com >http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

What I am looking for is a hard-soft phone solution. lets look at the prgression... 1. Softphone... no real ring ability 2. Hard-softphone... still a softphone with the added advantage of having a telephone handset to pick up and dial with etc. 3. Hardphone, basically a separate none tied solution to a pc, eg: snom 4. external interface device without or without pc configuration eg: ata186. What I am about to offer here in Australia is a registration type service running asterisk particularly for our own ADSL customer base (but not limited to). This means also that cisco-ata type devices running BEHIND nat can even ring each other etc (which explains my other thread question. So initially most users will progress from 1 to 4 (above) with some taking jumps etc.... I just want to have the products to recommend for each step. Gary .
Hi, You can try Actiontec's USB InternetPhoneWizard... then you can use your regular phone (corded or cordless) for both Internet and PSTN calls, with Call Waiting functionalities betwem them too. The phone will ring for Internet calls too and you can use the phone keyboard to dial using DTMF. I don't know if it works with X-Lite (I just ordered one and I still wait another two weeks for delivery), but I think it can be supported directly by the Asterisk software. Someone from this list have used it with Asterisk and/or a software SIP phone? Hi Gary, Xten will is expected to release 'X-USB' very shortly. It will be bundled with our X-Lite SIP Softphone [free product] and it works well with X-PRO our commercial SIP Softphone. X-USB is a USB device that connects to a regular telephone and communicates with Xten software running on a PC or laptop. I believe this will provide the functionality you are looking for re: ringing a phone, switching lines using flash etc. Unfortunately I do not have any additional information that I can provide other than the pricing for the unit, including the X-Lite software, should be below $30. I hope this helps :) Cheers, Erik -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-admin@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-admin@lists.digium.com]On Behalf Of Gary Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2003 9:28 PM To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Soft SIP phones (with RING !!)
