Hi everybody, I've never posted here before but I seem to be having a similar problem to what Tim Rice had in July, namely when running the configure script I get the following: configure: error: *** zlib missing - please install first or check config.log *** However, I have definitely installed zlib (see below): dngwks1:/tmp/openssh-3.0p1 # swlist # Initializing... # Contacting target "dngwks1"... # # Target: dngwks1:/ # # # Bundle(s): # 5181-3517 E.10.05 Hewlett-Packard JetDirect Printer Installer for Unix B3782EA B.10.20 HP-UX Media Kit (Reference Only. Darren (All), Thanks for your response. By providing the zlib PATH to the openssh configure script I managed to get to the stage where the script complains that openssl is not installed (as expected). However, after downloading the openssl software, I found to my disappointment, that I only have the standard HPUX C complier which is not sufficient to compile the openssl software. Currently, I am in the process of configuring and compiling the gcc v3.0 complier. It never rains but pours. Thanks for your help. I will keep you posted on my progress (or lack of). Ghulam. PS - If become a burden just yell out :) -----Original Message----- From: Darren Tucker [mailto:dtucker at zip.com.au] Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 3:57 PM To: Ghulam Rabani Cc: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org Subject: Re: Building 3.0p1 on HPUX 10.2, gcc, zlib 1.1.4 Ghulam Rabani wrote:> I've never posted here before but I seem to be having a similar problem to > what Tim Rice had in July, namely when running the configure script I get > the following: > > configure: error: *** zlib missing - please install first or check > config.log *** > > However, I have definitely installed zlib (see below):Firstly, 3.0 has at least one known remotely exploitable security vulnerability. Building 3.0p1 on HPUX 10.2, gcc, zlib 1.1.4
> # zlib 1.1.4 zlib > zlib.zlib-RUNMy HP-UX is a bit rusty but that looks suspiciously like only the runtime bits might be installed... Can you check if you can swinstall any other zlib packages?
Peat (All), I'm not sure what to think. As of yesterday I managed to install openssh! I have been able to successfully connect TO and FROM the HP machine that is running ssh (with X11 Forwarding enabled). I ran the swlist command on the zlib package again but also on several other programs including "traceroute" and "bash": sw zlib # Initializing... # Contacting target "dngwks1"... # # Target: dngwks1:/ # # zlib 1.1.4 zlib zlib.zlib-RUN # swlist traceroute # Initializing... # Contacting target "dngwks1"... # # Target: dngwks1:/ # # traceroute 991603 traceroute traceroute.traceroute-RUN # swlist perl # Initializing... # Contacting target "dngwks1"... # # Target: dngwks1:/ # # perl 5.6.1 perl perl.perl-MAN perl.perl-RUN perl.perl-SHLIBS # swlist bash # Initializing... # Contacting target "dngwks1"... # # Target: dngwks1:/ # # bash 2.05 bash bash.bash-RUN All the above packages just display the RUN module. In addition, all the above packages run without any problems. The final thing I should mention (as you may know) all the above packages were installed after being received in Depot format. However, one problem I am having at the moment with ssh is that, it comes up with a warning, which although doesn't seem to effect the operation of the application it would be nice to resolve this (note: I do not get this message when establishing a connection to the HP sshd with the "sshd" user). The error message I get is: Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions Directory missing fonts.dir Incorrect font server address or syntax Hope you can all help. Regards, Ghulam Rabani.
