Fellow mapstractors, I''m speaking about mapstraction tonight at a London neogeo event - #geomob http://gmdlondon.ning.com/events/geomob-november basically I''ll jus be explaining what mxn is, how ift can be used, and a brief history of the project and trying to encourage more people to contribute. My slides are here: http://www.slideshare.net/lokku/mapstraction-2537688 let me know if you have any feedback. ta, Ed -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Great Ed! Those slides give a great intro, Ed. And I love the call to action for more mxn contributors. I can confirm that Ed''s talk was good and well received. Lots of interest in the project. Bit of debate about differences between mxn and openlayers, and whether mxn was all about "lowest common denominator" but people definitely seemed interested. Great to hear, John! The whole LCD argument comes up a lot for Mapstraction. There''s some truth in it, but I see two upsides that supersede the problem: 1) Mapstraction features do not have to exist in every provider. So, if there''s something new in provider X you can use it through Mapstraction, assuming someone adds it in. If it''s a useful feature that isn''t terribly hard to duplicate, you can bet other providers will eventually support it. And, of course, the "cool new feature" problem exists in OpenLayers, too. 2) My favorite part is that Mapstraction can add features that don''t exist in *any* API. For example, I believe that Mapstraction had autoCenterAndZoom before anyone else (please correct me if I''m wrong, or I''ll continue spreading that fact). --Ad --- Adam DuVander I like maps: http://mapscripting.com I like simple: http://adamduvander.com On Nov 20, 2009, at 3:16 AM, John McKerrell wrote:> I can confirm that Ed''s talk was good and well received.
