I guess this really isnt the right place to be posting this it's probably the best place for me to find the answer. I would like to know if any of you are doing windows 2000/2003 installs over PXE and if so how you had it setup. I've done some searching on google and mostly found info about somthing called RIS or RAS or whatever.... it required a windows box and thats not a option.. I was thinking about just putting the ISO on a image and booting that with memdisk but after a reboot windows always wants the cd so i dont think that will work. Can anybody point me in the right direction... ~Shaun

I install windows using ISOLINUX but the procedure is the same. I have the contents of windows CDROM on the network and using the isolinux based CD you can install dual boot machines without much input from the user (the person installing it). You can find details at http://gui.mahamurali.net. This does not require RIS at all and during the first phase of the installation it copied the contents of the "Windows CDROM" to the hard disk, so it shouldn't need the CD again. - Murali Shaun wrote:> I guess this really isnt the right place to be posting this it's probably the best place for me to find the answer. > > I would like to know if any of you are doing windows 2000/2003 installs over PXE and if so how you had it setup. Lookup Business Desktop Deployment on the MS site. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/desktopdeployment/default.mspx This is the direction MS are heading with Vista. It's based around WIM imaging (Non destructive) and WinPE. Pxelinux complements it well. BDD uses RIS to load WinPE but you can substitute PXELinux and have a flexible menu for other boot disks etc. We are currently using at my work and it has simplified the whole process greatly. BDD incorporates automation of building reference system images. (Without driver dependancies) And a Zero or Light Touch deployment of those images. It works well with SMS Operating System Deployment Pack, but you can essentailly take what you want from it, to build a process that suits your needs. Very Slick. Check it out. BDD 2.5 if a free download. The unattended process is nice, but getting a bit dated when compared to the speed and simplicity of BDD based imaging.
