Hi guys! I have a problem with my Debian/XEN Installation on my rental server. I activated the bridge modus. But now I miss the eth0 and vif0.0 at my Dom0 This is the result of ifconfig at Dom0: root@appius:/etc/xen# ifconfig lo Link encap:Lokale Schleife inet Adresse:127.0.0.1 Maske:255.0.0.0 inet6-Adresse: ::1/128 Gültigkeitsbereich:Maschine UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metrik:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 Kollisionen:0 Sendewarteschlangenlänge:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) peth0 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 6c:62:6d:85:ba:ba inet6-Adresse: fe80::6e62:6dff:fe85:baba/64 Gültigkeitsbereich:Verbindung UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metrik:1 RX packets:6639 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:4289 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 Kollisionen:0 Sendewarteschlangenlänge:1000 RX bytes:520333 (508.1 KiB) TX bytes:790287 (771.7 KiB) Interrupt:206 Basisadresse:0xc000 vif3.0 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet6-Adresse: fe80::fcff:ffff:feff:ffff/64 Gültigkeitsbereich:Verbindung UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metrik:1 RX packets:246 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:312 errors:0 dropped:1 overruns:0 carrier:0 Kollisionen:0 Sendewarteschlangenlänge:32 RX bytes:19563 (19.1 KiB) TX bytes:28520 (27.8 KiB) xenbr0 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 6c:62:6d:85:ba:ba inet Adresse:85.10.210.138 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Maske:255.255.255.224 inet6-Adresse: fe80::6e62:6dff:fe85:baba/64 Gültigkeitsbereich:Verbindung UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metrik:1 RX packets:6018 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3996 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 Kollisionen:0 Sendewarteschlangenlänge:0 RX bytes:368692 (360.0 KiB) TX bytes:763412 (745.5 KiB) Is this correct?! Where is the eth0 and vif0.0? And now I want to connect the Dom0 and the DomU with ipv6. I have configured the /etc/network/interface but without eth0 . How can i enable the ipv6 support? You could either configure ipv6 on xenbr0 as needed, or edit the xen config and change the bridge name to eth0. -- May the ping be with you .. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
How can i configure xenbr0, in the /etc/network/interface?! IPv6 works great in the DomU... The Xen network scripts take the configuration of eth0 *before* the bridge is created, and transfers it to the bridge xenbr0. 2. The bridge is configured in /etc/network/interfaces as usual... I don''t know which one it is, because my bridge is called eth0 and so eth0 is configured in the interfaces file, even though the physical interface is moved to peth0. Interestingly I also use Debian/Xen (squeeze), all installed via debian repository and it doesn''t use xenbr0 but eth0 instead for the bridge name. -- May the ping be with you .. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

But now I miss the eth0 and vif0.0 at my Dom0See last week''s thread entitled "XEN - networking and performance" - I don''t feel like repeating all the stuff that''s in there about configuring networking under Xen & Debian ! General advice is don''t use Xen network-script - comment it out and use the native OS tools. - Use udev (/etc/udev/rules.d/<something-persistent-net-rules) to set your physical interface to a fixed and meaningful name. - Configure the bridge as an interface in /etc/network/interfaces, and bind your NIC to it. The key is to configure your IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6) on the bridge, not the physical interface. -- Simon Hobson Visit http://www.magpiesnestpublishing.co.uk/ for books by acclaimed author Gladys Hobson.
