Kernel panic from install CD
I have a bunch of DecTOPs. Use the AMD Geode chip. Yesterday I upgraded one of them, and got the dreaded Kernel panic. Something about powernowk8. I could boot up with the old kernel, though. I know I have to put in a bug report on this, will do shortly, but first wanted to try a fresh install on another DecTOP. At the prompt, I specified: linux askmethod After it loaded the kernel, it

Failed VNC Install
Installing a new system, I launched the install: linux vnc I was then able to connect with a VNC client and run the install, really cool. All went well until the actual installation started. I saw the formatting of the swap partition, then the root file system and then I was suddenly disconnected. On the console was the following message: *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption

CentOS 6 USB changes
Ok, I just managed, after much effort, to rebuild my USB key to install CentOS 6. There are a number of changes. Partition the USB key, but make partition 1, Win 95 (FAT32) (I think that's partition type "b"), bigger. I made it 500M. The rest should be ext3 (or whatever). Format the partitions. Make sure to toggle the bootable flag on partition 1. syslinux /dev/<DOS

CentOS 4.5 FTP install
I'm having trouble getting CentOS 4.5 to install via FTP. I have a local FTP server with a mirror of 4/os/i386. I boot from the first CentOS 4.5 CD and enter 'linux askmethod'. I choose the FTP installation method and DHCP for the IP configuration. At the FTP Setup screen I enter the IP address of my server and the path of the i386 directory. Selecting OK there takes me to the CD

Disabling selinux at boot command prompt
I noticed in 4.92 there is no disabling selinux at install. It is now a firstboot option which then requires a reboot. Is there anyway to disable selinux at the boot install prompt so after the firstboot screens it wont reboot again? I presently install with "linux askmethod" so I can select NFS install. Thanks, Jerry

Cent OS 5 server setup walkthrough
I have just finished setting up and configuring a server running CentOS 5 with 2 Xen VMs. This article describes my journey through this, including the problems I faced and there solutions. It documents the installation of CentOS 5, from a single CD, adding software, configuring squid, NFS, Xen, etc and sharing yum cache and lot more! I request everyone to check this out and tell me what should I

Installing CentOS over LAN
I want to set up a server that will do network installs of CentOS, perhaps through NFS. Ideally, I'd put a CentOS in the CD of the target computer, I boot it off of that CD, and then the rest is done over my network and with the server. Has anyone done that and published it? Where can I find docs? === Al

Install from a USB CDrom?
OK, this is getting ridiculous. A relatively new HP NC4010 (1 year old). A maybe not the newest Storix USB CD/R-DVD drive. Of course the HP has no problem booting up off the CDrom. But then I get that blasted dialog of where are my install. So I go through the list and find a USB storage driver. It doesn't help. I do have a USB 2.5" drive case that I can put a drive in with the

Boot diskette for install CD
(New to CentOS and just joined the list.) Is there a boot diskette image for the install CD? I want to install CentOS in a classroom that does not have CD boot enabled. I couldn''t find one on the install CD, although it did have a USB flash drive boot image. I''m pretty sure that the machines in the classroom are too old to be able to boot from USB flash drives. Centos installed on OQO mod 2
Since I have a four of these units, and the XP recovery CD, I figured, "ah give it a go." And going through the Centos wiki, I found a simple piece I was missing: "linux text askmethod". There were a few problems I had with the text install: Disk Druid does not work with LVM partitions, much, in text mode. I was able to increase the size of the swap partition though...
