[zfs-discuss] Oracle F20 SSD devices for ZIL and L2ARC - decreased performance
Using the filebench workload "fileserver" with default settings for 120 seconds I consistently get better IO performance without F20 (pcie) SSD zil devices and/or SSD L2ARC devices. Without F20s I get the following results (often better): IO Summary: 542430 ops, 4520.0 ops/s, (411/822 r/w) 109.4mb/s, 4963us cpu/op, 39.8ms latency With the F20s as Zil and L2ARC devices (see zpool status output below): IO Summary: 424930 ops, 3540.9 ops/s, (322/644 r/w) 85.3mb/s, 7584us cpu/op, 49.9ms latency The SSDs when mounted on their own appear to perform well with very little latency. Further iostat doesn''t appear to show any issues on the F20 devices while in the zpool and filebench running. Single SSD as a lone zpool: IO Summary: 698585 ops, 5821.2 ops/s, (529/1058 r/w) 140.8mb/s, 2827us cpu/op, 31.1ms latency zpool with all devices including F20s (c7 and c8): NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM store ONLINE 0 0 0 mirror-0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039C0C1DBd0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D7A4D7d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 mirror-1 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D7A147d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D7FE5Bd0 ONLINE 0 0 0 mirror-2 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D9A7C7d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D78F33d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 mirror-3 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D81DCFd0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D82AF3d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 mirror-4 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D82BBBd0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5000C50039D8314Fd0 ONLINE 0 0 0 logs mirror-5 ONLINE 0 0 0 c7t0d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c8t0d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 cache c7t1d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c8t1d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 spares c0t5000C50039D82887d0 AVAIL Oracle T3-1 w 16 drive trays Oracle Solaris 10 9/10 s10s_u9wos_14a SPARC SunOS data01-boc 5.10 Generic_144488-12 sun4v sparc sun4v ZFS pool v22 FS v4 FileBench 21.4.8 -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
