Xapian devel - Mar 2014 - New to Xapian!

Hi,
    I have been looking at GSOC projects and i found Xapian. I found some
of the projects interesting especially "Weighting Schemes". I have
done a
course on Information Retrieval and Extraction and i built a mini search
engine on a wikipedia corpus. So i thought i can expand my knowledge by
involving in this project. How should i proceed
