Hi Just did something I''ve been waiting to do for a good long while ... tagged 2.0.0 in Subversion. I''ll create the release shortly, and am currently working on builds for OS X, Linux-x86 and Windows-Ruby 1.8-MSVC. Chauk-Mean, I''m hoping you''ll be able to offer builds for MingW, and Mario, for Linux x86_64. Thanks. A note on SVN: I''ve created a stable branch for a 2.0 series for bug fixes only, at svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/wxruby/branches/wxruby_2_0_stable/. Trunk is now ours to play with for whatever the longer-term future of wxRuby might be. I''ve posted some initial thoughts on the wiki http://wxruby.rubyforge.org/wiki/wiki.pl?DevelopmentRoadmap and I''d be keen to hear what you think. thanks all alex

Alex, Maybe you should advertise a bit more that wxRuby-2.0 supports ruby-1.9.1 in the announcement you will made. Cheers. Chauk-Mean. PS: I will add the recipe for building the mingw installer later.

Uploaded 1.8 x86-64 gem, and made comments on the wiki. If need be, I''ll grab 1.9, and compile it for x86-64, and make a Gem for 1.9 as well. I''m hoping that RubyInstaller will stabilise enough soon that we don''t need to work on this ourselves. alex

Thanks Sean, Nice to see you still poking your head in every so often. I would like to suggest that we re-organize the trunk structure now, since we have a 2.0 release, and 0.6.0 is no longer used, I would like to suggest that we move wxruby to branches, if need be, and then remove it from trunk completely, then rename wxruby2 to wxruby, and remove the CVSROOT, since we are using Subversion, not CVS. This way, we can get wxSugar, and wxruby together in a single checkout, without checking out a bunch of other stuff. If we''re at a starting point for a new version, we really need to clean out the work that is currently in there. Make it a bit more sane. I also suggest that we start the progression of versioning numbers in a more patch level way. Bug fixes, and such, being progressed by 2.0.<patchlevel>, and New features will follow the 2.<minor_version>.<patchlevel>. EG: If we''re patching current bugs to the 2.0 series, we only increase the patchlevel in releases, and of course, grouping together patches into a single release. If we''re adding new features / classes to the 2.0 series, we increase the minor level, and reset the patchlevel to 0. And start with the bug fixing for this current series. Repeating the process, till we reach 3.0. This is just my suggestion, as it would make things easier. I''ve just uploaded wxruby-ruby19-2.0.0-x86_64-linux.gem to the file releases, so we are now fully stocked on all versions of Ruby, all Platforms that we currently support. Woot for us! [wxruby-development] SVN branch/trunk cleanup, versioning
Hi Sean, thanks, and good to hear from you, hope things are going well with you. Mario Steele wrote:> I would like to suggest that we re-organize the trunk structure now,Mario - thanks for raising this, I''ve been thinking along the same lines.> since we have a 2.0 release, and 0.6.0 is no longer used, I would like > to suggest that we move wxruby to branches, if need be, and then > remove it from trunk completely, then rename wxruby2 to wxruby, and > remove the CVSROOT, since we are using Subversion, not CVS.I pretty much agree with this. What''s called wxruby2 is now effectively wxruby; there''s no other viable port. Agree then that we move the current wxruby to branches/wxruby_0_series or something, and trunk/wxruby2 becomes trunk/wxruby. I''ll do some surgery later this weekend.> This way, we can get wxSugar, and wxruby together in a single > checkout, without checking out a bunch of other stuff.Good.> I also suggest that we start the progression of versioning numbers in > a more patch level way. Bug fixes, and such, being progressed by > 2.0.<patchlevel>, and New features will follow the > 2.<minor_version>.<patchlevel>.Agreed. No new features (barring documented but missing methods) on 2.0.x, only bugfixes. This is in-line with most of the rest of the open-source world, except of course Ruby. Did anyone hear the gag about backporting syntax changes from Ruby 1.9.1 to Ruby 1.8.8? Oh ... you mean you''re being serious? Any new-feature version based on wxWidgets 2.8 becomes 2.2.x series. I suggest a version which targets wxWidgets 3.0 becomes 3.0.x series, to align the version numbers. Within development releases (2.1.x, leading up to 2.2.0, 2.9.x, leading to 3.0.0) there''s no feature freeze... a
